Plus One admission to begin next week in Kerala, more seats added

Thiruvananthapuram: Admissions to Plus-One higher secondary classes in Kerala will begin next week. A notification in this regard will be issued after the CBSE Class 10 results are also declared.

Twenty per cent additional seats will be sanctioned for Plus-One schools for northern districts from Kasaragod to Palakkad, and 10 per cent for other districts.

The number of applicants in each district will be checked and the number of seats will be further increased wherever required, according to Education Minister V Sivankutty, education department principal secretary A P M Mohammed Hanish and director Jeevan Babu.

Online classes

The online classes, using the G-Suite platform, will begin next week. The online classes will be first started for the Vocational Higher Secondary classes and then for the Higher Secondary stream, followed by high school and primary school.

Prior to that, it would be ensured that all students have online facilities. The number of students without online facilities will be finalised soon, the Minister said.

Engg admission: Uncertainty over considering plus-two marks

Meanwhile, uncertainty continues over whether higher secondary marks too would also be considered for admission to Engineering/B Tech courses in addition to the entrance score.

The Kerala government is yet to issue the order on whether there would be normalisation of marks for preparing rank lists as had been done in the previous years.

This file is with the Higher Education Minister. Only if a decision is taken at the ministerial-level can the higher education department issue an order.

The Commissioner for Entrance Examinations had recommended to the state government that the higher secondary marks need not be considered for admission this year as the CBSE and other education boards did not conduct the Class 12 exam on account of the COVID-19 pandemic. The higher education department had also agreed to this proposal.

It was also announced that the Engineering/B Tech admission this year would be based on the entrance score.

However, this stance was later changed and it was announced a final decision would be taken after the CBSE and Higher Secondary Education department of the Kerala government declared the Class 12 results.
