New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education has launched a new competency-based assessment known as SAFAL - Structured Assessment For Analysing Learning - for grades 3, 5 and 8.

The assessment framework will be implemented in select schools in this academic year itself. Applications have been invited from the schools for this.

SAFAL was among the 10 projects announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the first anniversary of the National Education Policy 2020.

The CBSE has clarified that SAFAL it was not an annual exam and that the results will not affect the students' promotion to the next higher classes.

The objective is to evaluate the level of knowledge gained in language, maths and science subjects. And this will take away the fear of exams, the PM said.

Academic Bank of Credit that aims for multi-disciplinary studies, Vidya Pravesh (preparation module prior to class 1), Artificial Intelligence for All (even for elders), and Indian Sign Language are some of the other projects announced by the Prime Minister.
