Kottayam: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will be starting certificate/diploma courses in Malayalam, informed Union Minister of Education Dharmenda Pradhan.

In a tweet on Saturday, Pradhan said that the programmes will be run through SWAYAM, an open online course platform launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

Pradhan said that the initiative will extend learning opportunities in Malayalam for Malayali students, "including those abroad".

The minister added that the courses were launched in accordance with the New Education Policy. "We are committed to promoting learning in Indian languages and make our education system linguistically diverse to improve learning outcomes," the minister tweeted.
