Kerala entrance exam toppers elated but surprised with their positions

Thiruvananthapuram: Toppers of the Kerala Government's engineering, architecture and pharmacy entrance exam, KEAM-2021, are obviously elated, but surprised to find themselves placed at top of the rank lists as the results were announced on Thursday morning.

Faiz Hashim of Vadakkencherry secured the first rank in the engineering entrance examination followed by Harishankar from Kottayam and Nayan Kishore from Kollam.

Faiz said he never expected to come on top of the charts in a highly competitive examination. “It was a huge surprise. I never expected this,” Faiz told mediapersons on Thursday.

Fayis, who studied at the Devamatha CMI Public School in Thrissur till Class 12, aims to pursue Computer Science for higher education. “I would like to research on computer science. That is my passion,” he said.

Second rank winner Harishankar too expressed surprise over his achievement. “I was shocked when I saw my name among the rank winners on television,” he said.

Harishankar said he is awaiting results of the JEE-Advanced examination. “I have high hopes about it,” he said.

Expressing astonishment over his third-place finish, Kollam resident Nayan Kishore said his aim is to join Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). “I never thought that I would win top ranks in the examination. It is a moment of great happiness,” he said.

Faris Abdul Nassar Kallayil, who secured first rank in the pharmacy entrance examination, too did not expect the rank. “It is a huge surprise,” he said.

Faris says he is awaiting the NEET (medical entrance) result too. “I will decide about my higher education after the NEET result is out,” he said.
