New Delhi: A directive asking all States to complete the admission process in all engineering colleges by October 25 will be rescheduled, the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) announced.

Authorities told Manorama that the dates would be changed based on the counselling schedules of the Indian Institutes of Technology and the National Institutes of Technology (NITs).

The commencement of option registration before preparing the rank list for Engineering, B Arch and Pharmacy admissions in Kerala had sparked concerns. Several students included in the Engineering rank list have applied for admission to IITs and NITs too.

Alloted engineering seats in colleges across the country may fall vacant when students secure admissions to premier institutions like IITs and NITs. In such a scenario, the allotment process would have to be repeated in non-premier institutions.

The AICTE had earlier ordered that first-year engineering classes should commence immediately after completing the admission process by October 25.

Kerala government has now decided to begin the first allotment process on October 11.
