The results of the NEET – UG is likely to be published soon. The candidates in Kerala and their parents are worried about the scope of admission. Here are some tips that could help you get an idea about the admission process.
Cut off
Candidates who score at least 50 percentile in the exam that has a total of 720 marks would be eligible for MBBS admission. It means that the candidate’s performance have to be better than 50% of the applicants who have scored marks in the exam. Meanwhile, candidates of scheduled categories and backward categories require 40 percentile. The differently abled candidates of general category need to score 45 percentile. The maximum marks in the exam are 720. However, the candidates must remember that they cannot ensure admission just by qualifying the exam. The score range of the general category candidates who got admission in the year 2020 was 720 – 147. It means that the cut off or the lowest score was 147.
All India quota
15% MBBS seats in the government medical colleges in the country, including in Kerala, come under the All India quota. The candidates would get an idea about this year’s scope of admission by referring the lowest ranks that got admitted to the government medical colleges in Kerala under the All India quota, last year. Meanwhile, there aren’t any All India quota seats in the self management medical colleges.
The aggregate of the number of admissions after two rounds of counseling by the Medical Counselling Committee (www.mcc.nic.in) too could be helpful in this matter. The category wise rank list at the ten government medical colleges in Kerala (Thiruvananthapuram, Paripally – Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Manjeri, Kozhikode, Pariyaram – Kannur) are available in this link. The main allotment in the centre would be completed after two rounds. It would then be followed by only the mop up allotment to a few institutes.
Allotment in Kerala
The Kerala Entrance Exam Commissioner conducts the allotment to 85% (barring the 15% All India quota) MBBS seats in Kerala. Refer the lowest ranks that got included in the state allotment list in 2020 (These are state ranks prepared from the MCC rank list by choosing those who were eligible for admission in colleges in Kerala).
