Kerala Tech University: First batch with BTech Minor degree to graduate in 2023

No proposal to recognise one year Master's degree from foreign countries: HRD Ministry

Thiruvananthapuram: Along with a BTech degree in their chosen stream, students of the Kerala Technological University will be allowed to earn a minor degree in another engineering branch. The first batch that can also earn the additional minor degree will graduate in 2023.To secure the minor degree, students will have to learn four additional subjects in that branch and successfully complete one project.

BTech Minor has been introduced as an option to develop specific competency in other fields of study. Apart from the regular BTech degree the University is offering three-degree options: BTech Honours, BTech Minor and BTech Vocational.

For example: If a Civil Engineering student completes four additional subjects in the architecture branch and a project, the student would receive the certificate - 'BTech in Civil Engineering with Minor in Architecture'.

Very few universities and IITs in India have the engineering minor system. Minor in engineering will begin in the third semester. And should be completed before the eighth semester to earn the minor degree.

Over 50 minor programmes have been included in the curriculum.

Minor courses cover advanced fields such as Machine Learning, Biomedical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Robotics, Material Science, and Smart Manufacturing.
