B.Des & M.Des: Apply for National Institute of Design courses by Nov 30

Applications are invited for admission to the Ahmedabad-based National Institute of Design (NID), a statutory institute under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Interested candidates may submit their applications until 4 pm on November 30. However, applications could be submitted late, until 4 pm on December 5, by paying the double of the original application fee.

NID has centres in Gandhinagar (Gujarat) and Bengaluru. Besides, there are autonomous institutes in Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Assam. Eligible candidates can avail reservations, based on the central government’s guidelines, at these institutes.

Programmes

A) B Des – 4 years. Those who have passed plus two/ 3-year engineering diploma this year can apply. The candidates can specialise in multiple streams under three areas:

» Communication Design (Animation, Exhibition, Film and Video Graphic).
» Industrial Design (Ceramic and glass, furniture and interior, products).
» Textile design.
There are 125 seats at the Ahmedabad campus and 75 each in Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Assam institutes.

B) M.Des – two-and-a-half years. The applicants should have completed graduation of three or four years or a 4-year diploma course in design/fine arts/applied arts/ architecture after plus-two. The applications of final-year students too would be considered.

Ahmedabad: Animation Film, Film and Video, Graphic, Ceramic and glass, Furniture and Interior, Product, Textile.
» Gandhinagar: Photography, Toy and Games, Transportation and Automobile, New Media, Strategic Design Management, Apparel, Lifestyle, Accessories.
» Bengaluru: Universal Design*, Digital Game, Information, Interaction, Retail Experience.

Aptitude test
The B.Des aptitude test has been scheduled on January 2 at 23 centres around the country. The exam centre in Kerala is at Thiruvananthapuram. The candidates who qualify this would have another round of main aptitude test too. It might be held in the online mode owing to the pandemic situation.

Application fee
The application fee is Rs 3,000. It is Rs 1,500 for candidates eligible for community-based reservation and persons with disabilities.

The same policies are applicable for the M.Des courses. The application fee too is the same. However, those who apply for two subjects should pay double the amount.
