Alappuzha: The district panchayat has reached an agreement with the education department to ensure gender-neutral uniforms in 48 schools that come under the panchayat.
The district panchayat permanent education committee that convenes today would give the approval for this. Meanwhile, the apparel unit that was announced in the district panchayat’s budget would be inaugurated by stitching these uniforms.
Various officials of the education department including the deputy director attended the meeting that was convened to discuss the matter of introducing gender-neutral uniform in panchayat schools.
The new uniform would be introduced from next academic year onwards. Meanwhile, the apparel unit would be opened in the district panchayat’s gender park or any other cluster where there is enough space. District panchayat president KG Rajeshwari said that at least fifty women could get employment in the first phase.
