Women power in defence: 1002 girls clear NDA exam

New Delhi: A total of 1002 women has cleared the National Defence Academy (NDA) examination.

After the next set of rounds that include interview and medical tests, 19 women will be given admission this time. Around 8,000 candidates had cleared the entrance exam held on November 14.

Following the Supreme Court's verdict on August 18, women were allowed to get admission to the NDA. As many as 1.78 lakh women candidates had written the exam. Around 5.70 lakh candidates had applied.

A total of 400 candidates will be given admission at the NDA and Naval Academy. Ten women will be among the 208 to be selected to the Army, while three women will be among the 42 who will join the Navy. A total of 120, including six women, will become part of the Air Force. But no woman is among the 30 who are being admitted to the Naval Academy.
