Calgary: Keralite expatriate Godly Mabel has become the youngest flight instructor in North America by obtaining a flight instructor rating licence from Transport Canada at the age of 19.

Mabel, from Calgary in Canada, had also made the distinct achievement of becoming the youngest Indian woman to obtain a commercial pilot’s licence in March 2022.

After completing her high-school diploma from the Bishop McNally High School in Calgary, she went on to earn a private pilot’s licence from the Springbank Air Training College, a commercial pilot’s licence from the Calgary Flying Club, a multi-engine IFR rating, and a flight instructor licence from the Kanata Aviation College. With her latest achievement, Mabel has secured a major milestone in her journey to be an airline captain.

The minimum age requirement to be an airline pilot is 21, as per the Transport Canada rules, and hence Mabel has to wait for two more years to achieve her goal. Soon after obtaining the licence, Mabel has received several offers to be the flight instructor from the various flying schools in Calgary and nearby cities.

Godly Mabel is the eldest daughter of Keralite expats Aby and Rose Aby, who migrated to Canada in 2017. She has a brother Ryan Aby.
