Kerala School Science Fair: Palakkad emerges champion

Kochi: Palakkad has emerged the winner in the Kerala State School Sasthrolsavam — Science Fair — that has just concluded. The district became the champion by scoring 1,383 points. Their excellence in Information Technology and Social Science contests won them the crown.

It is for the fourth time that Palakkad is winning the top position in science fairs on a point-basis. Malappuram bagged the second position with 1,350 points, and Kannur filled the third slot with 1,338 points.

At the school level, Fathima Matha School, Koompanpara, in Idukki won the first place with 120 points, while Durga Higher Secondary School scored 117 points to secure the second slot. Mananthavady Girls Vocational Higher Secondary School won the third position with 113 points.

Category winners
Palakkad and Thiruvananthapuram shared the first position in the Science section with 122 points. Kannur won the second position with 117 points, while Pathanamthitta bagged the third place with 116 points.

Palakkad won the first slot in the Social Science fair with 133 points. Thiruvananthapuram and Malappuram shared the second place. Ernakulam came third.

In the Maths fair, Malappuram came first with 262 points, while the second place went to Palakkad with 253 points and the third place to Kannur with 242 points.

Thrissur was the champion in the Work Experience competitions. Palakkad with 749 points won the second slot and Kannur won the third place with 746 points.

Palakkad emerged the winner in the Information Technology fair. Kozhikode with 125 points and Kannur with 117 points occupied the second and third places respectively.

Separate fairs were held for Science, Maths, Social Science, Work Experience and IT subjects in the State School Science Fair.

Special schools
In the Special School HI category of the Science Fair, St Clair Oral School for the Deaf, Manikyamangalam, Ernakulam, won the first place. Karuna Speech and Hearing School for the Deaf, Eranjipalam, Kozhikode, won the second slot. Malappuram and Karunya Bhavan for the Deaf, Vazhakkad, won the third position.

In the special school VI category, Assisi School for the Blind, Kanjirappally, won the first place.

HKCMM Blind School, Kottapuram, bagged the second slot and Kozhikode Medical College Rahmania Vocational Higher Secondary School won the third place.

Industries Minister P Rajeev inaugurated the concluding meet of the fair. Transport Minister Antony Raju handed over prizes to the winners. Kochi Mayor M Anilkumar presided over the function. Jebi Methar, MP, released the Science Fair souvenir.

Kochi Deputy Mayor K A Ansiya honoured Muhammad Rashid, who designed the logo of the science fair. The Fair had commenced on Thursday.
