Apply for UG, PG programmes in Crafts and Design at IICD, Jaipur

The Indian Institute of Crafts & Design, Jaipur, which was set up as an autonomous institute by the Government of Rajasthan in 1995, offers various undergraduate and post-graduate degree programmes in Crafts and Design.

The programmes are Bachelor of Design (BDes); Master of Design (MDes) and Master of Vocation (MVoc). Handicraft is the focus of the syllabus. The institute will receive online applications for admission for the academic year 2023-24 till 5 pm on January 21.

Academic programmes
• Four-year BDes: Those candidates who have successfully completed the Plus-Two course with any elective subject are eligible to apply.

Specialisations are offered in six categories
» Soft Material Design (textiles, paper, natural fibers, leather)

» Hard Material Design (wood, metal, stone, cane, bamboo)

» Fired Material Design (porcelain, earthenware, stoneware, terracotta)

» Fashion Clothing Design

» Jewellery Design

» Crafts Communication (creative illustration, graphics, photography, videography & animation)

The candidates should mention the specialization chosen in the application. A decision on the same will be made by assessing the academic performance in the first two semesters. Total 180 seats.

• Two-year MDes: The qualification required is a Degree in Design/Architecture. The specializations are similar to B.Des. Total 90 seats.

• Three-year MVoc: Graduates from a Design or non-Design background. Total 90 seats.

The first year in BDes and MVoc are foundation courses. The certificate is awarded at four levels- Diploma after one year, Advanced Diploma after two years, BVoc after three years and BDes after four years.

Selection process
The selection process for all the programmes is the same.

Entrance tests will be conducted at 14 centres including Chennai, on February 12. The test includes two compulsory parts to be held in the morning and afternoon – General Awareness, Creativity & Perception (35 % marks) and Material, Colour & Conceptual test (45% marks).

There is no exam center in Kerala. The candidates should also attend an interview (20 % marks) on February 12 itself after the exams. They can submit their own creative works at that time.

The list of selected candidates will be published on February 27. The fees should be remitted before April 3. The classes will start in July.

Application, admission fees
The Application fee is Rs 1,750. It is Rs 3,500 for NRI candidates. The admission fee is Rs 7,000. The tuition fee (per semester) is Rs 1,20,000.

The total fees for the first semester, including the hostel fees, would come to around Rs 2,20,000. The fee structure for all the programmes is the same.

NRI candidates have special fee rate. Successful candidates have so far managed to get good placements.
