Thiruvananthapuram: Transport Minister Antony Raju has said that a GPS-based mobile application 'Vidyavahini' is being developed for school buses to ensure safe travel for students.

Speaking in the Assembly, the minister added that the students' journey can be monitored in real time through this app. A toll free number would also be provided.

A route management system would be implemented for digitizing the schedule of the KSRTC buses based on GPS. People relying on public transportation can keep track of the bus timings through the mobile app. A new project has been started in collaboration with the health department for monitoring ambulances through the GPS system.

Under the Safe Kerala project of the Motor Vehicle Department, 675 artificial intelligence cameras have been set up in the state but these are yet to be made operational. Steps have been initiated for the administrative nod for this.
