The Forest Research Institute Deemed University at Dehradun, known for top-class studies into forest-related subjects, has invited applications for admissions to four post-graduate programmes at the institution.

The programmes are MSc Forestry, MSc Wood Science & Technology, MSc Environment Management and MSc Cellulose & Paper Technology. Admissions will take place based on an online selection test and the last date on which applications will be received by post is April 17.

Selection test

An entrance test for selecting students will be conducted in online mode on May 21. It will be of three-hour duration and negative marks will be applied.

The question paper would have 200 objective-type questions covering the following topics: Basic Science (100 questions); Arithmetic & Quantitative Abilities, Computational Ability, Quantitative Reasoning, Interpretation of Tables/Graphs, (40 questions); General Knowledge and Contemporary Developments (30 questions) and English Language, Communication, Vocabulary, Grammar and Usage (30 questions).

Seats, eligibility for programmes

• MSc Forestry: There are 43 seats and eligibility to apply is a bachelor’s degree in Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics or Zoology or a degree in Agriculture / Forestry.

• MSc Wood Science & Technology: This programme also has 43 seats. Candidates having a degree in Physics, Mathematics or Chemistry can apply. Those with a Forestry degree are also eligible.

• MSc Environment Management: This programme too has 43 seats. Eligibility is a degree in any Basic or Applied Science or a degree in Forestry or Agriculture or a BTech in Environmental Science.

• MSc Cellulose & Paper Technology: This programme has only 26 seats and eligibility is a BSc degree with Chemistry as one among the subjects or a BTech in Chemical / Mechanical Engineering. The second year of this programme will be conducted at Pulp & Paper Research Institute, Saharanpur.

Things to note

Applicants should have secured at least 50 per cent marks in the qualifying degree exam. However, the cut-off is 45 per cent for Scheduled Caste and Tribe applicants. All the programmes are of two-year duration.

Reservation is available for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Castes, Differently-abled and In-service candidates. An additional 15 per cent seats are available for foreign students. Applicants from abroad who seek these seats are exempted from the selection test.

Those interested should download the application form from the website, fill up their details and send it by post along with a demand draft so that application reaches the Institute by April 17 this year.
