Kozhikode: The summer vacation for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in Kerala has been rescheduled to the April-May period, taking note of the complaints raised by the parents and teachers. The Navodaya Vidyalayas in Kerala and Delhi will remain closed from April 1 to May 30.

Although the summer vacations of Navodaya Vidyalayas in Kerala had followed the April-May schedule till the COVID- induced lockdown, it was changed to the May-June period as that followed in the case of the schools in North India. This abrupt change in schedule was attributed primarily to the conduct of the entrance test for class 6 in April.

However, parents and teachers sought to resist the move, registering complaints against holding the classes amidst the stiflingly hot conditions in April. The complainants also cited the presence of back-to-back holidays falling in the month, such as Easter, Vishu, and Ramadan fasting.

It was against this backdrop that the summer vacation for the Navodaya Vidyalayas in Kerala was rescheduled. An order to this effect was issued yesterday.
