Thiruvanathapuram: Education Minister V Sivankutty has instructed District Collectors to declare holidays for educational institutions a day in advance in the event of rain and floods.

The delay in declaration of holidays are affecting students and their parents, V Sivankutty said.

While the holiday for educational institutions in Ernakulam and Kasaragod was declared a day in advance, the holiday for Alappuzha was announced only on Tuesday morning.

Amid heavy rain, the IMD has issued a red alert for Idukki and Kannur districts. An orange alert was issued in all other 12 districts.
