No decision yet on new posts under Kerala Administrative Service

Thiruvananthapuram: The State Government is yet to take a final decision with regard to 44 new posts and deputation slots identified to be included under the Kerala Administrative Service (KAS).

Earlier, it was agreed to issue the second notification for the appointments after listing the posts selected for the service on November 1.

A committee led by the Chief Secretary had been entrusted with the responsibility of finding vacancies after new appointments could not be made for vacant posts under the KAS. It hand-picked 44 posts from 80 departments, after which it was decided to issue a second notification for making the new appointments. However, the move was scuttled following the objections raised by existing employees.

The chief secretary was entrusted with the task of finding out the vacancies during a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister. It was then hoped that after the identification of the new posts from various departments, including the deputation vacancies in the Secretariat, the second notification could be issued on November one itself.

Earlier, the first notification was issued in 2019 after including 105 posts in 29 departments in the service. However, the list of appointees was released only in 2021.

The Public Service Commission requested the government notify them of any vacancies that arise after the expiry of the first list, but there has been no response. Following this, the appointments under the KAS, which has the tagline “the proud service of Kerala,” came to a complete halt after the first notification itself.
