CTET: Exam to be held on Jan 2; apply by Nov 23

The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), which is the qualification exam for appointment as teachers in classes one to eight in all schools under the Central Government such as Kendriya and Navodaya Vidyalayas, will take place on January 21, 2024. The CTET score could also be utilized for recruitment in government, aided and unaided schools in states also.

The deadline to apply for the upcoming CTET, conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), is November 23. CTET qualification has lifelong validity and candidates can make any number of attempts. They can also appear again even after earning qualification in order to improve the scores.

Eligibility
The information bulletin of CTET does not mention the minimum qualification to apply. Applicants have to check the website https://ncte.gov.in for the purpose. The details are given in the gazette notifications in this regard in the ‘Acts and Regulations’ link on the website.

Test details
CTET is of objective-type in OMR pattern and will take place at 235 centres, including Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Kozhikode. There would be two papers. Paper 1 will be conducted from 2 – 4:30 pm for candidates who wish to become teachers in Classes 1 to 5. Paper 2 will be from 9:30 am to 12 noon for teacher aspirants in classes six to eight. Each paper will have 150 questions. Total marks for each paper 150. There is no negative mark for wrong answers. Candidates can attempt either one or both papers.

How to apply
Applications could be submitted online on the website https://ctet.nic.in till 11.59 pm on November 23. Application fee for one paper is Rs 1,000 and for both papers is Rs 1,200. The fee is Rs 500 for one paper for Scheduled and Differently-abled candidates. For both papers, the amount is Rs 600.

GST will be charged additionally. The fee has to be paid online and on submitting the application, a confirmation page will be sent.

Candidates have to take a printout of the confirmation page and keep it. However, they need not send it to the exam authorities. Candidates who score at least 60-percent marks in CTET will be issued an ‘Eligibility Certificate.’ CTET is only a qualifying exam and candidates have to apply separately to gain appointments.
