New Delhi: The Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) has announced that it would no longer be conducting two-year B.Ed. courses. In place of the two-year courses, a four-year BEd course (Integrated Teacher Education Programme – ITEP) will be introduced and the necessary procedures have been initiated, said RCI authorities.

BEd in special education is offered by RCI in the country.

New institutions will not be able to start the two-year courses. Institutions already conducting the courses can continue to do so. However, their recognition will not be renewed.

RCI authorities also said that the new four-year course is being prepared under the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) guidelines and applications will be invited soon to conduct it.
