Thiruvananthapuram: In a departure from last year, the annual exams for lower classes will not be conducted on the days of the upcoming SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate – class 10) exams in Kerala.

In 2023, exams for SSLC and classes 1-9 were held on the same days in the morning and afternoon. However, this arrangement caused much distress to teachers who worked as invigilators.

This year, SSLC exams start on March 4. A supervisory meeting of the Quality Improvement Programme has recommended March 1 to 27 as the dates for the annual exams for classes 1-9. In schools where high school and primary classes function, the exams for students in classes 1-9 will be scheduled on days without SSLC exams.

At the same time, in schools having only lower and primary classes, it is proposed to hold the annual exams from March 18 to 26. A separate set of question papers will be prepared for these schools.

Meanwhile, the authorities are yet to finalize the exam timetable for schools following the Arabic calendar.

Another proposal is to conduct the exams for classes 1-9 also in the morning.
