The Kerala Engineering Entrance will take place in online mode this year, which brings several advantages. Here is a glance at the main changes and the benefits involved.
No need to fill bubbles
An average time of 20 minutes is spent for marking answers by filling bubbles on an OMR sheet, which could be saved in the online test. Moreover, the possibility of answers becoming invalid when the bubbles are not marked properly could be avoided. Similarly, a candidate can change the answer anytime during the test.
600 marks for 150 questions
Last year, there were 120 questions in the Physics-Chemistry paper and another 120 in the Mathematics paper. The time allotted was two-and-a-half hours for each paper.
This year, there would be 45 questions from Physics, 30 from Chemistry and 75 from Mathematics. For the 150 questions, total marks would be 600 and the duration of the test 180 minutes. While a candidate can score four marks for a correct answer, a wrong answer would lead to one negative mark.

The time remaining in the test will be displayed on the top of the computer screen. Incidentally, candidates were not allowed to wear a watch in the exam hall till last year.
‘Mark for review’ option
Candidates can utilize the ‘mark for review’ option while answering questions about which they have doubts. This will help them easily check these questions later.
Another feature of the test is a display in various colour codes on the computer window showing the number of questions that have been answered, reviewed, not attempted and not read. If a candidate has doubts about a question that was answered, it too can be reviewed. In short, the candidate can answer any question at any time during the test.
Space for calculations
While answering questions on Maths and Physics, candidates may need to carry out calculations, for which only limited space was available on the question papers last year. However, additional sheets would be provided for the purpose this year. Candidates can also demand any number of sheets.
Mock tests
Experts say that candidates should attempt the maximum number of mock tests to become familiar with the online pattern, in order to perform well in the entrance exam.
