Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala's Education Minister, V Sivankutty, has issued a stern directive against conducting classes during the summer vacation in schools following the state syllabus.

Sivankutty emphasized that the government had received numerous complaints regarding vacation classes. He further highlighted allegations of certain schools soliciting funds to organize these classes.

Citing Chapter 7, Rule 1 of the Kerala Education Act, the Minister underscored that the entirety of April and May should be designated as summer holidays.

Although a recent order from the Kerala High Court permitted schools not governed by the Kerala Education Rules (KER) to hold summer classes from 7:30 to 10:30 am, subject to specific conditions, the Minister clarified that the court stipulated that such schools, offering CBSE and ICSE curriculum, could only conduct vacation classes based on an administrative order.
