New Delhi: The Central government has introduced a set of new regulations regarding Kendriya Vidyalayas which are a huge setback for several sections of the people, particularly private sector employees. The new rules say that inter-state transfer will not be allowed for children of private sector staff. However, children of people working for the Central government will continue to get transfer from the Kendriya Vidyalaya in one state to that in another.

Another major change is reduction in the strength of a class division from 40 to 32 students. Under the latest rules, additional seats will be allowed in the middle of an academic year only for children of armed forces personnel and certain specified professionals. Yet another change that has attracted criticism is the abolition of reservation for single girl child in Kendriya Vidyalayas.

The new regulations will come into force during the upcoming academic year and protests have been announced against the move by Opposition parties and various sections of the people. Incidentally, in a controversial decision, the government had withdrawn the MP’s (Member of Parliament’s) quota of admissions for 10 students in Kendriya Vidyalayas two years ago.
