Pathanamthitta: A 92-year-old woman was killed by her helper at Kumbazha in Kerala's Pathanamthitta district on Tuesday. The victim was identified as Janaki.

The police have arrested Mayilswamy, her aide, in connection with the murder.

According to the police, Mayilswamy slit Janaki's throat with a knife. He had written death threats to Janaki earlier, police said.

Pathanamthitta District Police Chief K G Simon said that Mayilswamy planned the murder well in advance.

Another helper Bhoopathi, meanwhile, said that Mayilswamy had undergone treatment for mental health at a hospital in Kottayam.

Mayilswamy had also attempted suicide by consuming poison when he was at a resting place for Sabarimala pilgrims in Pathanamthitta.

Bhoopathi said he wasn't present at the house on Monday. When he reached home, Mayilswamy opened the door for him. Later, Bhoopathi found Janaki with slit throat in her room.

According to reports, Janaki is survived by three children. All of them are settled in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Mayilswamy and Bhoopathi were hired by them to look after their mother.
