Congress candidate dies after tree falls on her during campaigning in TVPM

Parassala: A Congress candidate, who was on a door-to-door campaigning for the upcoming local body polls, died after a tree fell on her in Thiruvananthapuram district on Wednesday.

The deceased was K Girija Kumari, 42, wife of Binunath from Uchakkada. She was the Congress candidate at the Puthiya Uchakkada ward of Karode panchayat.

After visiting homes along with her husband at Puluvetty in Uchakkada, Girija was walking along a narrow street when the tree fell on her around 11.40am on Wednesday. The 20-ft tree was being chopped at a nearby property. Though tied to a rope, the tree fell in the opposite direction on to the road, causing the accident. Girija Kumari died on the spot.

Girija had been the Kudumbashree CDS chairperson of Karode panchayat for six years. She had started campaigning only two days ago after her seat was confirmed.

Her children are Binduja G Nath, and Anjuja G Nath. The dead body is kept at Parassala Hospital mortuary.

The Pozhiyoor police have filed a case over the incident.
