Tamil star Ajith dons new role, trains students for drone contest

More than his incredible charisma as a screen icon, it is his exemplary personality that makes Tamil superstar Ajith stand apart. Tollywood’s favourite hero, who is known for his humility, is now lauded for his efforts to train a few students at the Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), Chennai. He has been instructing a group which is gearing up to take part in the prestigious Medical Express – UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) Challenge 2018, which is to be held in Queensland, Australia, later this month.

The authorities at MIT have conferred the actor with the positions of helicopter test pilot and drone system adviser. A remuneration of Rs 1,000 was decided to be paid for the actor for each visit. However, Ajith has donated this amount for the educational purposes of under-privileged students at the institution.

Ajith has been part of the project since May this year. He manages to take time off the sets of his latest movie ‘Viswasam’ to join the students at the MIT campus for the training sessions. The other faculty members said that the actor hardly misses a session.

An ardent enthusiast of technology, Ajith is equally interested in aeronautics besides racing and photography. He had taken part in many aeromodelling competitions from childhood itself. The MIT has rightly appointed Ajith who is passionate about the designing and operation of remote-controlled vehicles to train the ‘Daksha’ team for the overseas contest. It is the only team that will represent India.

The latest reports say the UAV designed by Ajith's ‘Daksha’ team is all set for its launch. The pictures of the actor and the students conducting test flights are viral on the social media.

Every year the Medical Express sets a unique task for the participating teams. This year the contestants are required to design a drone, which can take off from a laboratory, travel at least 30 km into remote areas to collect blood samples from a patient. The ‘Daksha’ team has designed a drone which can reportedly fulfill the criterion of the competition. However the team’s greatest challenge would be to execute it at the event efficiently.

The MIT and ‘Daksha’ hope to win this competition of great international repute, with the smart contributions of Ajith. A cash prize of USD 75000 awaits the winner.
