Rajinikanth returns in style: 'Coolie' trailer promises a gritty action spectacle

The trailer of 'Coolie', the much-awaited Rajinikanth–Lokesh Kanagaraj collaboration, has finally dropped, sending fans into a frenzy. The three-minute sneak peek presents Rajinikanth in a stylish, massy avatar, while actors like Soubin Shahir and Aamir Khan add to the intrigue. Soubin appears to have a significant role in the story, whereas Aamir Khan's character remains shrouded in mystery — but it's clear that his presence will be impactful. It also unveils glimpses of key characters played by Upendra, Aamir Khan, Sathyaraj, and Nagarjuna. Packed with explosive action, the trailer sets the tone for an intense gangster drama.

Set in the action-drama space, 'Coolie' is a period gangster action thriller. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on August 14 and marks Rajinikanth’s 171st film. Alongside the superstar, the cast includes big names such as Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna, and Upendra. Aamir Khan appears in a special cameo, while Shruti Haasan plays the female lead.

Due to its gritty and violent content, the film has been cleared by the Censor Board with an 'A' certificate. This marks the first time in years that a Rajinikanth film has received an adult certification, making 'Coolie' potentially the most violent film of his career.

Backed by Sun Pictures and produced by Kalanithi Maran, 'Coolie' also brings Rajinikanth and Sathyaraj together on screen after 38 years. The cinematography is handled by Malayalam talent Girish Gangadharan, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. Coming right after 'Leo', this film is Lokesh Kanagaraj’s next big offering — and expectations are sky-high.
