Janaki V vs State of Kerala', written and directed by Praveen Narayanan has locked its OTT release date and will start streaming on a major platform soon. The film hit theatres on July 17 after facing back-to-back censorship hurdles over its title. The film was initially titled Janaki Vs State of Kerala, but the makers had to include Janaki's surname in the title after the Censor Board argued it was disrespectful to name a rape victim Janaki since it was an alternative name for the goddess Sita.
The movie follows a young woman's quest for justice as she strives to prove that she is a victim of a heinous crime. Suresh Gopi plays an activist lawyer in the movie, which also features actors Madhav Suresh, Divya Pillai, Shruthi Ramachandran, Sobhi Thilakan, and Jayan Cherthala.
Although the film opened to mixed reviews, many praised Suresh Gopi's performance as Advocate David Abel Donovan. The film also marked the return of Anupama Parameshwaran to Malayalam after her Mollywood debut through 'Premam' a decade ago. 'Janaki V vs State of Kerala' tackles a serious subject on rape and adoption, which has rarely been tackled in Malayalam films before. The movie will start streaming on Zee5 from August 15
