Actor Vinayakan has sparked controversy after going on an abusive rant on Facebook, targeting acclaimed filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan and legendary singer KJ Yesudas. Along with his expletive-laden post, the actor also shared a photo of Yesudas, further fuelling criticism.
The post quickly drew widespread backlash, with many in the comments section strongly condemning Vinayakan's language and tone. Social media users called the rant disrespectful and unacceptable, especially given the stature of the personalities involved.
Vinayakan’s post comes in the wake of recent criticism faced by Adoor Gopalakrishnan over his comments at a state film conclave in Thiruvananthapuram. While addressing the gathering, Adoor had expressed disapproval over the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) allocating ₹1.5 crore in funding to aspiring filmmakers from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities.
His remarks were widely criticised as being insensitive and discriminatory. Following the backlash, Adoor clarified that his comments were misinterpreted. He reiterated that his point was about the importance of training for all newcomers in the film industry, regardless of background. “Everyone stepping into the industry should undergo training,” he said.
