Dulquer Salmaan apologises for ‘Lokah’ dialogue offending Kannadigas

Wayfarer Films, the production house behind the blockbuster ‘Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra,’ has issued a formal apology following backlash over a dialogue that allegedly hurt the sentiments of people from Karnataka. In a statement shared on Instagram, the team confirmed that the dialogue will be edited or removed as soon as possible.

“It has come to our attention that a dialogue delivered by one of the characters in our film Lokah: Chapter One has unintentionally hurt the sentiments of people from Karnataka. At Wayfarer Films, we place people above everything else. We deeply regret this oversight and assure you that no offence was intended. The dialogue in question will be removed or edited at the earliest. We sincerely apologise for the hurt caused and humbly request you to accept our apology,” the statement read.

While the filmmakers did not specify which dialogue was being referred to, social media users have speculated that it may be the line in which the word Dagar—interpreted by some as a derogatory term for women—is spoken by the antagonist, played by actor Sandy. This is not the first time actor-producer Dulquer Salmaan has issued an apology for a controversial dialogue. In 2020, he apologised for a scene in ‘Varane Avashyamundu,’ which featured a dog named Prabhakaran. A section of Tamil viewers had criticised the makers who misinterpreted it as a veiled attack on LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran.
