Megastar Mammootty who iconised Kodumon Potty in the critically-acclaimed film 'Bramayugam' won this year's Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor. The award was announced by Minister for Culture and Films Saji Cherian during a ceremony held at Ramanilayam in Thrissur in the presence of the seven-member jury led by Prakash Raj.

The jury praised Mammootty’s performance and added that the actor received the award for brilliantly essaying two characters — Kodumon Potty and Chaathan— in a single body, which is an uneasy feat.
Shamla Hamza who starred in 'Feminichi Fathima', which won several awards at the last year's International Film Festival of Kerala, received the award for Best Actress.

Shamla played the titular role of a young wife Fathima who challenges patriarchy in her household through her ‘rebellious’ acts. The film's director Fazil Muhammed received the award for Best Debutant Director at this year's state awards.
Meanwhile, Mollywood’s blockbuster film ‘Manjummel Boys’ swept the Kerala State Film Awards winning 10 awards in various categories. Chidambaram, who had previously helmed Jan-e-Man received the award for Best Director, while ‘Manjummel Boys’ won Best Film. Art Director Ajayan Chalissery was adjudged the Best Art Director while Shijin Melvin received the award for Best Sound Design for his work in the same film.

Shrik Warrier took home the award for Best Colorist in Manjummel Boys. ‘Premalu’, which won hearts of the youth through its refreshing take on relationships, was adjudged Best Popular Film. Vedan who wrote the lyrics for the song Kuthanthram from the movie ‘Manjummel Boys’ won Best Lyricist. Soubin Shahir and Sidharth Bharathan shared the award for Best Character Artist (Male) in ‘Manjummel Boys’ and ‘Bramayugam’ respectively. Lijomol Jose, took home the award for Best Character Artist (Female).

Prasanna Vithanage’s story won for ‘Paradise’ starring Roshan Mathew and Darshana in the Best Story Writer category. Darshana received a special mention for her work in the same film, while Jyothirmayi also received the jury’s special mention for her work in ‘Bougainvillea’. Asif Ali and Tovino Thomas, who were also contending for Best Actor, received special mention by the jury for their work.

Zeba Tommy received the award for Best Playback Singer (Female) in ‘Am Aah,’ while K S Harishankar received the award for Best Playback Singer (Male) in ‘ARM’.

'ARM' directed by Jithin Lal also won the award for Best Visual Effects. Sayanora, who recently dubbed for Kalyani Priyadarshan in the film 'Lokah' was adjudged the Best Dubbing Artist for her work in Mohanlal-directorial 'Barroz'. Sameera Saneesh was adjuged the Best Costume Designer for her work in 'Rekhachitram'.
Christo Xavier received the award for Best Background music in 'Bramayugam', while Sushin Shyam has been adjudged Best Music Composer.
Directors Ranjan Pramod and Jibu Jacob chaired the two sub-committees of the preliminary jury, while Bhagyalakshmi, Gayatri Asokan, Nithin Lukose, and screenwriter Santhosh Echikkanam were among the members.
