Music director Jakes Bejoy has expressed his excitement about being part of Dulquer Salmaan’s much-awaited period drama ‘Kaantha’. Sharing his thoughts on X, Jakes said he was honoured to have scored the film’s background music and hailed director Selvamani Selvaraj as Tamil cinema’s “new visionary director.”

“Honoured to have contributed to the background score of ‘Kaantha’. Selvamani Selvaraj has arrived, and he’s here to stay. Tamil cinema has a new visionary director, and I say this with confidence,” Jakes wrote. He added that ‘Kaantha’ features some of the best performances from its lead cast — Dulquer Salmaan, Samuthirakani, Rana Daggubati, and Bhagyashri Borse.

Jakes also took a moment to appreciate composer Jhanu Chanthar, who handled the film’s songs and themes. “I was happy to step in and complete the background score to support the team for the final stretch. Wishing the entire cast and crew the very best for the release on the 14th. Don’t miss this gem of a film,” he added.

Expectations around ‘Kaantha’ have been steadily rising among fans and cinephiles. Earlier, lead actress Bhagyashri Borse had shared an emotional note on Instagram, calling the film the fulfilment of a lifelong dream. “30.03.23 — the day a little girl’s dream came true. The day I became Kumari,” she wrote, thanking director Selvamani for trusting a newcomer like her.

“Thank you, Selvamani sir, for believing in me and giving me this rare opportunity. This film is your vision, and soon the audience will witness your magic,” she added. Bhagyashri also thanked Rana Daggubati for his constant guidance, calling him her mentor, and described Dulquer Salmaan as a “true Nadippu Chakravarthy” who inspired her throughout the shoot.

“This 14th November is extremely special for all of us. I hope the audience finds it just as special, watching a film made with so much love,” she concluded.

Originally slated to release on September 12, ‘Kaantha’ will now hit theatres on November 14. Set in 1950s Madras, the film is described as a gripping period thriller that explores the clash between tradition and modernity through deeply personal stories.

‘Kaantha’ is jointly produced by Spirit Media and Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films. The film features cinematography by Dani Sanchez-Lopez, music by Jhanu Chanthar, and background score by Jakes Bejoy.
