The buzz around 'Globe Trotter' had been building for weeks, but nothing quite prepared fans for the scale of what unfolded at Ramoji Film City on November 15. What began as a grand spectacle quickly turned into a landmark moment for Indian cinema, as S S Rajamouli finally lifted the curtain on his long-awaited project. The title, revealed to thunderous applause, is ‘Varanasi’, with Mahesh Babu leading the film.
To match the hype, the team screened the teaser on an enormous 130 ft x 100 ft screen, turning the venue into a festival ground. As soon as the visuals ended, another announcement sent the crowd into a frenzy: the film is eyeing a Sankranti 2027 release.
The surprises didn’t stop there. First-look posters of Prithviraj Sukumaran and Priyanka Chopra Jonas were unveiled, instantly becoming the highlight of the night. Prithviraj’s intense turn as Kumbha brought an air of danger, while Priyanka’s commanding presence as Mandakini added a layer of intrigue. With Rajamouli at the helm and Mahesh Babu’s massive fandom behind the project, more than 50,000 fans reportedly gathered to witness the moment.
A couple of days earlier, on November 13, Rajamouli had already begun teasing the world by dropping Priyanka’s character poster on social media. He welcomed her to ‘Varanasi’ with a warm note calling her “the woman who redefined Indian cinema on the global stage.” Priyanka echoed his excitement, writing, “She’s more than what meets the eye… Say hello to Mandakini.”
Rajamouli also introduced Prithviraj’s Kumbha with a personal touch, recalling how impressed he was after their first shot together. “You are one of the finest actors I’ve ever known,” he wrote, calling the villainous role a creatively fulfilling collaboration.
With each reveal, it’s clear that ‘Varanasi’ isn’t just another big film. It’s shaping up to be a full-blown cinematic event.
