Actor Ranveer Singh recently drew significant criticism for his comments and imitation of the Chamundi Daiva during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The video of his remarks went viral just ahead of the release of his film Dhurandhar a week ago, sparking outrage online.

In the video, Ranveer Singh referred to Chamundi Daiva, a revered deity in Tuluva culture, as a 'female ghost,' which upset many, as Chamundi Daiva is considered a goddess and a sacred figure.

Ranveer had shared his thoughts on Kantara (Chapter 1), saying, "I watched Kantara in theatres, and Rishab, it was an outstanding performance, especially when the female ghost (Chamundi Daiva) enters your body — that shot was amazing." He then proceeded to mimic the character, crossing his eyes and sticking his tongue out. He followed up with, 'Anybody here wants to see me in Kantara 3? Tell this guy,"'referring to Rishab Shetty.

While Rishab Shetty himself laughed at the imitation, many of those present at the event appeared uncomfortable, and social media backlash was swift. Netizens expressed their outrage, with one user commenting, 'Dear Ranveer, you don't know the difference between God and Ghost...Chamundi is a Goddess, not a ghost. You're mocking a sacred deity on a big stage.'

Many felt that Ranveer had shown a complete lack of respect for the cultural and spiritual significance of Chamundi Daiva. One user, Siddhart Pattill, wrote: 'You think our deities are your comedy props, Ranveer Singh? Daiva Chamundi is worshipped, not ridiculed! Apologize immediately, or face total boycott! We won't tolerate this blasphemy!' 'Kantara: Chapter 1' is the prequel to Rishab Shetty's first film from the instalments, which went on to become a huge hit.
