Actor Vinayakan, who plays the lead in Mammootty’s upcoming film ‘Kalamkaval’, has confirmed that he is part of director Nelson’s highly anticipated Tamil sequel ‘Jailer 2’, starring Superstar Rajinikanth. In an interview, Vinayakan said he will indeed be seen in the new film, marking his return to the franchise after his much-praised performance in the first instalment.
Rajinikanth, meanwhile, returned to Chennai on Tuesday after completing a shooting schedule in Goa. The film has already generated considerable buzz, especially after reports surfaced that Vijay Sethupathi had joined the team for the Goa schedule. Although sources claimed his portions were being shot, there has been no official confirmation from the makers. Mohanlal is also expected to join the set soon.
Back in May, Rajinikanth had told reporters that the shoot would likely continue until December. “Shooting of Jailer 2 is progressing well. It will be December by the time the film ends,” he had said at the Chennai airport.
The sequel carries tremendous hype, given the massive success of ‘Jailer’, which became a blockbuster with a reported worldwide gross of around ₹650 crore. Shooting for ‘Jailer 2’ began in Chennai, with Sun Pictures announcing the start of production on March 10. Excitement surged when the makers released a teaser that blended humour and action, giving fans a taste of what’s to come.
Actress Ramya Krishnan also confirmed her involvement when she shared a story from her first day on set at Attappadi, Kerala, writing, “26 years of Padayappa and the first day shoot of Jailer 2.” She reprises her role as Vijaya Pandian (Viji), wife of Rajinikanth’s character Muthuvel Pandian. Sources add that actress Mirnaa, who plays Swetha Pandian, Rajinikanth’s daughter-in-law, will again have a key role in the sequel.
Music composer Anirudh, who delivered one of the biggest hits of his career with the original film’s soundtrack, is once again scoring for the sequel.
