South Indian superstar Dhanush and Aishwarya Rajinikanth are parting ways after 18 years of togetherness. The actor announced it through his Twitter handle.
"The journey has been of growth, understanding adjusting and adapting," Dhanush wrote, "...Aishwarya and I have decided to part ways as a couple and take time to understand us as individuals for the better."
The actor also exhorted everyone to respect their decision and give them the "needed privacy to deal with" their situation.
Dhanush and Aishwarya tied the knot in 2004 after six months of courtship. The Tamil world had celebrated the grand wedding of the daughter of megastar Rajinikant with the son of film producer Kasthuri Raja with much fanfare.
They have two sons, namely, Yatra and Linga.
