Playback singer Zeba Tommy, who bagged the Best Singer award at the 55th Kerala State Film Awards, said the honour has brought her “double delight.”
“I’ve been singing since a very young age and have sung for over 15–20 films, but this is my first state award. I’m extremely happy and grateful to God, my parents, director Thomas uncle, and Gopi sir for giving me such a beautiful lullaby to sing,” Zeba said.
Zeba received the award for the song ‘Aarorum’ from the movie ‘Am Aah’, directed by Thomas K Sebastian. Rafeeq Ahamed penned the song.
Zeba, who is also making waves with her English single Queen of the Night, said receiving the state honour at a time when her independent work is being widely appreciated feels extra special. “It’s definitely double happiness. Queen of the Night is an English track, while Aarorum is a Malayalam lullaby. It reinforces that I don’t want to be boxed into any specific genre or language,” she said.
The singer added that she had already received several congratulatory calls from her well-wishers and the film’s crew but is currently busy with rehearsals for an upcoming show in Mumbai. Zeba also revealed that her next original composition, a song she has both written and composed, will be released on November 15.
