It was on October 02, 2018 that violinist Balabhaskar took his last breath following a tragic road accident. Now, seven months later, Prakash Thambi, the program coordinator and manager of Balabhaskar along with another aide of the musician, Vishnu were arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for their alleged involvement in a gold smuggling case.
Now, the mysteries surrounding Balabhaskar's death has once again grabbed the headlines and varied reports are doing rounds on social media.
In a first, Balu's wife Lekshmi opened up responding to the reports and recounted the most dreadful day in her life.
Lekshmi pointed out that Balabhaskar was not a person who would compromise on art. “If Balu discovered any of the artists drunk, he would throw them out without any second thoughts. So how could such a person be friends with these so called criminals?” she asked. “His sole negative trait was that he blindly believed individuals, only to realise later that he was wrong to place his trust in them,” she was quoted saying.
Many reports stating that Lekshmi too was involved in the accident had surfaced online, to which she asked, “I lost my husband and my daughter. Ours was not an arranged marriage too. Why would I need gold and money, if I don’t have both of my loved ones with me?”
“The doctors told me that when Balu was conscious, though he was unable to speak, he hit the bed with his arms to allow him to see me in the ICU. Balu first asked about me,” she said.
Lekshmi also denied the allegations that she is working to complete Balu’s pending albums. “I am not musically gifted, how can I work on his albums? I only know to enjoy music as I accompanied Balu in his programmes.”
“Balu always wanted to go for trips with our daughter and me. Now, they both have gone together leaving me alone”, she said.
Lekshmi is currently staying at Balabhaskar’s house in Thiruvananthapuram and is still undergoing treatment as she struggles to stand up. Now, the late musician's wife only wishes for a life where she is able to do things on her own, without being plagued by unwanted and painful rumors.
