Singer M G Sreekumar opened up about his bond with lyricist Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri in 'Ormmakal', a programme hosted on his YouTube channel. The actor revealed that Kaithapram is like an elder brother and dismissed the allegations about his strained relationship with the celebrated lyricist.
“Kaithapram sir is a legend. There is no doubt about that. I have attended many of his music concerts (kacheri). He is a huge devotee of Mookambika Devi. I still remember the taste of the food he served me at his home. Also, we have been part of several songs. People keep saying statements that fuel controvery and I don't want to get into that. Rather, I just want to reiterate that he is a legend. None of the songs he has written has ever been bad. Infact, I believe he should have been conferred with the Padmabhooshan and not the Padmasri. That is his contribution to Malayalam cinema. Apart from film songs, he has written several lyrics for light and devotional songs. I have sung many of his songs, which couldn't be written better by anyone other than him. There is a certain divinity in his words. His musical composition is out of the world,” he said.
The singer also praised the lyricist's passion for writing songs. “No lyricist would appreciate changing the lyrics of a song during the recording. However, Kaithapram sir was always willing to do so. In fact, he would keep correcting the lyrics till it was perfect,” Sreekumar recalled.
