Bread and butter pudding is one among the simplest custard based recipes. It is an ideal way to turn leftover bread from a party or dinner into mouthwatering baked goodies. The richness of milk and eggs give a creamy texture to the dish. The undeniably delicious dish is enriched with sultanas, a type of dried grapes.
Ingredients
For bread layers
2 tbsp butter
6 thin slices of brown bread1 1/2 tbsp sultanas
Freshly grated nutmeg
For custard
1 1/2 pints of whole milk
3 tsp cater sugar
6 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
Preparation
Spread butter and orange marmalade on one side of each bread slices
Cut them diagonally
Place a layer of bread slices with the buttered side up on a 2 1/2 pint ovenproof pan
Add a layer of sultanas
Make another layer with buttered bread and set aside
Beat the eggs and sugar together
heat the milk and stir it into the egg mixture
Add vanilla extract to it and mix well
Pour this custard over the bread layers in the pan
Top it with freshly grated nutmeg
Pour water into a roasting pan and place the dish over it
Bake at 160 degree C for 1 hour
Slice and serve
