Most people indulge in rigorous workout sessions to burn calories and to stay in great shape. However, fitness experts say that one should have a healthy snack within half an hour of completing the workout session. You could eat after two hours if you have had a short exercise. Here are some tips to eat right and healthy post workout.

Energy is required for the body to workout. This energy is derived from the glycogen stores in the muscles. It is important to have a healthy snack or drink post workout to fill these with energy and to make the muscles stronger.

If you aim for muscle build-up, then you should include protein in your post workout meal. Egg whites and chicken are storehouses of protein. Or a glass of fat free milk would be ideal. You could easily whip up a healthy shake by blending a big banana with a tablespoon of peanut butter in mixer jar. Sprouts beans and green grams too are amazing.

Try to cut down the calories if you are looking to shed some kilos. Fresh fruits or fruit juices could satiate your hunger. Watermelon is an excellent post workout snack. This fruit which contains more than 90% water refreshes and replenishes the body. Besides, it has fewer calories as well. You could also prepare a fruit bowl with fresh fruits and yoghurt.

Those who do short exercises to stay fit and healthy should eat snacks that are rich in protein and carbohydrates. A healthy sandwich could be made by smearing some peanut butter or almond butter on whole wheat bread. Or you could eat boiled egg white with brown bread slices. Oats porridge garnished with raisins too is incredibly healthy.

If you don’t feel like eating anything after working out, drink something to nourish your body. You could hydrate your body with a glass of clean drinking water or a healthy smoothie or a fruit juice. Beetroot juice is excellent to supply oxygen to the cells and would make the muscles stronger.
