Empanada is a baked or fried pastry which has its origins in Spain. A variety of fillings can be used in it. Here is a simple recipe of empanada which has spicy mutton as its filling.
Ingredients
2 cups all purpose flour (maida)
50 gm butter
1 egg
1 onion
200 gm mutton (cut into small pieces)
1 cup spring onion
1/4 cup thyme leaves
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp paprika powder
1 tsp cumin powder
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup almonds (roasted)
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 cup orange juice
Preparation
In a bowl, add the all purpose flour, salt, and butter
Mix well
Add an egg and mix it into soft dough
Keep it aside
Heat oil in a pan
Add chopped onions, mutton pieces, spring onion, thyme leaves, salt, paprika powder, cumin powder, raisins, roasted almonds, brown sugar, and a cup of orange juice
Mix well
Roll the previously prepared dough and cut round-shaped pieces
Place some of the meat mixture in it
Fold and seal the edges
Arrange the empanadas in a baking tray
Give it an egg wash and bake at 200 degree Celsius in an oven
Hot empanadas can be served along with sauces or grated cheese on top.
