Kumbakonam Kadappa

Kumbakonam kadappa is a tasty and nutritious dish made with protein-rich green grams. This curry tastes amazing with rice, chapathi and roti. Check out the pretty simple recipe of Kumbakonam kadappa.

Ingredients
½ cup / 100 gms green grams
1 potato
1 onion
4 green chillies
¼ tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp lemon juice
Coriander leaves as required
For the base
2 tbsp grated coconut
3 green chillies
1 tsp roasted Bengal gram
2 cloves garlic
1 tsp fennel seeds
For the tempering
1 tsp mustard seeds
¼ tsp cumin
1 cinnamon stick
3 cloves
1 cardamom pod
2 dried chillies
Curry leaves as required
Oil as required

Preparation
Soak the green grams for at least half an hour
Into a pressure cooker add the soaked green grams, peeled potato pieces, turmeric powder, salt and 3-4 cups water
Pressure cook these ingredients until 3 whistles
Meanwhile, grind the grated coconut with green chillies, Bengal gram, garlic, fennel seeds and some water into a smooth paste
Mash the cooked green grams-potato mix
Heat oil in a pan or vessel
Splutter mustard seeds and cumin
Now roast cinnamon, cloves and cardamom
Into it add onion, green chillies, dried chillies and curry leaves
Sauté for 2-3 minutes
Add the mashed green gram-potato mix
Add the coconut paste and some water too
Add salt if required
Turn off the flame when the gravy boils rapidly
Sprinkle the lemon juice and garnish with some chopped coriander leaves
