Make super soft idiyappam without scalding your hands

The delicate strings of idiyappam soaked in flavoursome vegetable curry or egg curry would make the perfect breakfast. However, most people are scared to make idiyappam as the dough is mixed in hot water.

Many complain that mixing the dough is a challenge as it scalds their hands. Here is an easy way to mix the idiyappam dough without burning the hands.

Ingredients
1 cup rice powder
1 cup water
Salt as required
2 tsp coconut oil

Preparation
Add 1 cup water and salt into 1 cup rice powder
Mix well
Transfer this into a mixer jar
Blend into a loose mixture
Pour this into a thick bottomed pan
Stir continuously on low flame
Meanwhile, add coconut oil
Cook until the water reduces and the dough turns sticky
Allow the dough to cool down
Now, fill the idiyappam mould with the dough
Place some grated coconut on each hole in a idly vessel
Press the dough into the holes
Steam the idiyappams
Soft and delicious idiyappams are ready!
