Ragi puttu: A nutrient-packed delight for weight watchers

Ragi, also known as finger millet, has many essential nutrients like calcium, iron, fiber, and amino acids, bringing to the table a plethora of health benefits. It’s the best for those suffering from diabetes and weight-conscious individuals, as its low glycemic index aids in regulating blood sugar levels and contributes to a sustained feeling of fullness. Here’s the simple recipe for delicious ragi puttu:

Ingredients
1 cup ragi (finger millet) flour
½ cup grated coconut
¼ cup of coconut water
Salt (as required)

Preparation
Thoroughly wash one cup of ragi and keep it aside to drain using a sieve
After about one minute or so, put the same into a puttu maker and cook for 10 minutes
Gently push the puttu out of the mould into a plate and keep it aside to cool slightly
Now put the same in a mixer jar and grind well without adding water Shift the same into a bowl
Stir the ragi powder well, add salt and sprinkle coconut water on the puttu, which increases the taste of the dish
The mixture should be moist enough to hold together when pressed but not too wet
In the puttu maker, start layering the mixture with grated coconut
Begin and end with the coconut layer
You can put two teaspoons of grated coconut first and then four to five spoon powder
Continue this process until the puttu maker is filled
Boil the water of the puttu vessel and place the puttu maker over it
Steam the mixture for about five to 10 minutes
You will notice steam, escaping from the top layer, indicating it is ready
Serve the delicious ragi puttu warm with your favourite accompaniment
Traditionally, it is paired with banana slices or kadala curry (chickpea curry)
