Bride hospitalised, Kerala hospital turns wedding venue again: Doctors step in to pass garland and thali

Jithin and Diya would have imagined numerous ways to conduct their wedding, even as an unexpected health emergency posed hurdles along the way. Hardly would they have thought the wedding would have a short and sweet ceremony surrounded by angels - in scrubs! Ochira native Diya G Prahlad was admitted to the VPS Lakeshore Hospital in Kochi a few days ago after a tummy ache, and an immediate surgery followed. The episode would have interfered with her wedding on April 2 with Kayamkulam native Jithin Jayan. However, the families and the couple weren't ready to let anything ruin the special day. As Diya couldn't travel to their wedding venue, the family turned the temple at the hospital into the ceremony spot.
The wedding was held on Thursday between 10.30 and 11 am. The couple were handed over the garland and the 'thali' by their doctors, Dr H Ramesh and Dr Maya Peethambaran, at the ceremony. In the meantime, the earlier venue, the Devikulangara Auditorium in Kayamkulam, became the venue for the wedding feast. Alongside the couple's close family members, the hospital management, doctors, and nurses also joined the ceremony to bless them. VPS Lakeshore Hospital MD SK Abdulla, CEO Jayesh V Nair and Group CEO Lakshman Sethuraman were also present. After the wedding, Diya continues treatment at the hospital. Jithin works as a Health and Safety officer in Saudi Arabia, while Diya is preparing for higher studies, following a master's in English Literature.
Last November, too, VPS Lakeshore Hospital witnessed a similar incident. When a car accident hours before their wedding hospitalised Avani from Alappuzha with a spinal injury, her fiancé, Sharon, married her at the hospital's emergency ward. The family and hospital staff worked together to complete the ceremony without disrupting patient care. In March this year, the couple had another ceremony after Avani had recuperated.
