Thiruvananthapuram: A fight over a video call led to the murder of a 33-year-old woman at Mannanthala here on Saturday. Sheheena was allegedly beaten to death by her brother Shamshad (44) after he objected to her speaking with another man over the phone.

As per the FIR, Shamshad became agitated after finding his sister video calling an unidentified person, whom he blamed for the breakdown of her marriage. Enraged that his sister continued to stay in touch with the man he believed had ruined her life, Shamshad, along with the second accused, Visakh, allegedly took Sheheena to a flat in Mannanthala and assaulted her to death. When their parents later arrived to take Sheheena to the hospital, Shamshad reportedly stopped them and created a commotion, the FIR said.

Shamshad has been booked under Sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 103(1) (murder) and 3(5) (common intention in criminal acts) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is ongoing.
