Kozhikode: Kerala reported another electrocution-related death after a 62-year-old woman died upon coming into contact with a tree branch that had brought down an overhead electric line and fallen into the premises of her house. The deceased is Fathima, a native of Kuruvangad in Koyilandy here.

Speaking to Manorama News, her neighbour Siddique said the woman was electrocuted when she touched a tree branch that had fallen near her kitchen. It is believed that the electric line was snapped when the tree branch fell on it during heavy rain.

A large tree branch fell close to Fathima’s house from an adjacent plot, confirmed a fire and rescue official from the Koyilandy fire station. It is reported that she was electrocuted after touching the branch, unaware that it had come into contact with a live electric wire.

The woman’s body, currently kept at Koyilandy Government Taluk Hospital, will be shifted to Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. The Youth Congress has decided to stage a protest on Monday at Perambra. 

This is the second electrocution-related death reported in Kerala on Sunday. In Thiruvananthapuram, a youth was killed after his two-wheeler collided with a fallen electric post. On July 17, a Class 8 boy was electrocuted at Thevalakkara Boys High School in Kollam while retrieving a slipper that had fallen into the school’s cycle shed. According to police, he died after touching a low-hanging electric line.
