Kollam: An eight-member Special Investigation Team, led by the Karunagappally Superintendent of Police, will probe the death of Athulya, who allegedly died by suicide due to domestic violence in Sharjah. The Chavara Thekkumbhagam police have already booked Athulya’s husband, Satheesh, on charges of murder and dowry harassment based on a complaint filed by her family.
According to Manorama News, the police have initiated steps to bring Satheesh, who is currently in Sharjah, back to Kerala. If necessary, a lookout notice will be issued to facilitate his repatriation.
Athulya (30) was found dead in her flat in Sharjah on Friday. Following this, her family filed a complaint with the police, alleging that she had taken her own life due to prolonged domestic abuse by her husband. On Monday, Athulya’s sister is expected to file a complaint with the Sharjah police and the Indian Consulate seeking action against Satheesh over the alleged suicide. The family has raised serious allegations against Satheesh and shared videos of him physically assaulting Athulya.
According to Manorama News, citing sources in Sharjah, the private company where Satheesh was employed as a site engineer, terminated his employment after he was booked by the police in connection with the case.
It is understood that Athulya had sent these videos to her sister, who also lives in Sharjah. A voice clip of Athulya also surfaced, in which she is heard saying that she endured all the abuse from her husband for the sake of their only daughter.
Athulya’s friend told Manorama News that Satheesh treated her like a slave and even forced her to drink his urine. It is also alleged that Athulya was brutally tortured for giving birth to a girl child. Like her family members, Athulya’s friends also argued that she would not have died by suicide, as she had already endured many hardships in her married life.
Meanwhile, Satheesh has claimed innocence and denied responsibility for his wife’s death. However, he admitted to physically assaulting her. Speaking to the media, he said he was upset with his wife for aborting their second pregnancy without his consent. Satheesh also claimed that he attempted to die by suicide after finding Athulya hanging in their flat, but changed his mind to uncover what led her to take the extreme step.
